Safety equipment is required for all sparring.

Approved foam or vinyl head, hand, and feet protective equipment must be used. All equipment must be free to tape, tears or repairs that may cause injury. Mout pieces and groin cups (male only) are also required.

Jewelry or any object that might endanger a participant may not be worn.

Light Contact

“Light contact” means no penetration of visible movement of the opponent as a result of the technique. Light contact is allwed EXCEPT to the facial area where NO CONTACT is allowed under the rank of senior brown belt.

Target Areas – Legal

Head, face, side of neck, ribs, chest, abdomen, collarbone, and kidneys.

Spine, back of neck, throat, back, legs and knees

Techniques – Legal

All controlled martial arts techniques delivered to legal taret areas with legal surfaces execpt those listed as illegal.

Techniques – Illegal

Head butts, hair pulls, bites, scratching, knees, sweeps higher than mid-calf or to the front of the leg, stomps to the head, jumping on downed opponent, kicks to the legs, blind techniques, open hand techniques to the eyes, slapping, grabbing for more than two seconds. Sweeps are allowed only to the back of the front leg to break the opponent’s balance, not to take him down and with a follow-up of a legal technique to a legal target area. Grab of the uniform and grabbing or trapping a kick is allowed for two second to facilitate scoring on the opponent.
